I like it this way

My life and watching people

Review of book Triptych by Karin Slaughter

Man! This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and that is unusual for me. Hell, it’s unusual for me to even get into a psychological thriller these days. Most of them are so predictable, the story line done over and over.

But I have to tell you, Karin Slaughter was a very pleasant surprise. It is the first book of hers I have read. What makes her writing so compelling is that she uses no cliches. Her characters are original, the situations they place themselves in unique.

This is the story of a teenager who lost his way. He got mixed up with drugs and ended up in prison for 20 years for a murder he didn’t commit. But what makes the story unique and suspenseful is that you don’t find out until you are half way through the book that his cousin, who is the cop on the case of new murders that started occurring right after the protagonist gets out of prison, murders with the same MO, is the actual murderer and was also the one who murdered the young girl twenty years before.

I love the female cop character that Slaughter created, and related to her a lot. I’ll just say that Karin Slaughter could have been a psychologist instead of a writer if she were a mind to. She has insight into human motivation that I have never seen a writer of this genre possess before.  If you love mystery and suspense novels, be sure to read this marvelous book.
